Director of SCM Center for Education
The Reverend Keith Goheen serves as chaplain at Beebe Medical Center, a community owned hospital in Lewes, Delaware. His duties include direct pastoral care to patients throughout the hospital and the supervision of chaplaincy team. Keith serves on the hospital’s Cultural Diversity Committee, and its Bioethics Committee.
Holding Ministerial Fellowship with the Unitarian Universalist Association, Keith is also a member of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association and the Association of Professional Chaplains. He was ordained in 1999 by the First Universalist Church in Orange, MA and is currently affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Society of Mill Creek in Hockessen, DE.
Keith describes his practice this way: “Of the many things I do to support our patients and staff, the most important act is to be fully present, in body, mind and spirit. Daily, I draw on my Unitarian Universalist heritage for the courage I need to be present in a pastoral way amid the often-demanding circumstances of the hospital setting. And our tradition’s rich troves of spiritual stories are the models for my inspired relationship with God. I may be the lead chaplain on staff, but I am led through this work in so many wonderful ways. Being on the Board of the Unitarian Universalist Society for Community Ministries allows me to share some of the gifts that others have given to me.”
